1. BRAND COMMUNICATION & CREATIVE.

Compelling content is at the heart of a communications strategy.

We create content to bring messages to life and power great campaigns. Whether it is content to be shared on social media, promoted in traditional media or used as part of publications and reports, we understand the importance of corporate identity, presentation and visual impact when communicating your message. With our commitment to a strategic approach, evidence, analysis and planning are central to delivering the most compelling creative solutions for our clients.

Portland’s Content & Brand team draws together writing, research, design, brand strategy, web development, live content, data visualisation and video production, to produce powerful integrated creative content.

Our integrated team supports clients across Portland, producing content and collateral for public affairs, communications and stakeholder campaigns – writing op-eds and articles for placement in leading media outlets; developing brand identities for high-profile individuals, blue-chip corporates, international organisations and governments; producing infographics to communicate complex issues; designing publications and reports; and developing websites, intranets, online collateral, apps and interactive graphics to deliver engaging digital campaigns.

2. MEDIA PLANNING & BUYING.

Media planning is generally outsourced to a media agency and entails sourcing and selecting optimal media platforms for a client's brand or product to use. The job of media planning is to determine the best combination of media to achieve the marketing campaign objectives.

In the process of planning, the media planner needs to answer questions such as:

  • How many of the audience can be reached through the various media?

  • On which media (and ad vehicles) should the ads be placed?

  • How frequent should the ads be placed?

  • How much money should be spent in each medium?

Choosing which media or type of advertising to use can be especially challenging for small firms with limited budgets and know-how. Large-market television and newspapers are often too expensive for a company that services only a small area (although local newspapers can be used). Magazines, unless local, usually cover too much territory to be cost-efficient for a small firm, although some national publications offer regional or city editions.

3. CORPORATE SHOOT.

The term “corporate video” doesn’t usually grab the attention of partners and prospective clients. That is changing as big brands and small businesses change their approach to the traditional corporate video. Increasingly, companies are trying to find ways to create content that can engage and entertain audiences instead of just trying to sell them something or promote the company. In today’s environment of two way communication between brands and consumers, companies have become storytellers, and video is a great storytelling tool.

5. INTERVIEW SHOOTS.

As a video producer here at TechSmith, I regularly conduct interviews for both internal and external communications. I’ve found over the years that the success of a video interview comes down to two main things: being prepared and making your subject feel comfortable.

Shooting an interview can be challenging. With usually only one chance to get it right, it’s vital to take all of the proper precautions and plan ahead (hint: we’ll be covering those precautions in this blog post). Additionally, you want to make sure the subject feels comfortable because capturing genuine responses is arguably the most important part of shooting a great interview.

To help you successfully shoot a video interview, I’ve gathered some of my personal, tried-and-true tips.
